Happy Happy Birthday and Tour Wrap-up
Happy, happy birthday, Kana!!!!!!!!!! I wish that I was still in Columbus to celebrate, but I know it will be wonderful. I'm so lucky to share so many experiences with a great, true friend. Musical experiences, too! Thanks for being "Dual Reveries" with me!
After all the planning and practicing leading up to the tour, it's hard to believe that I'm already back in Madison. We had a truly phenomenal trip, and felt so lucky to share our music with so many people! I felt especially lucky to be able to give a recital in my hometown - it was wonderful to reconnect with so many people I hardly get to see anymore.
Our concerts in Columbus went especially well and we raised money for two special causes - Breast Cancer Research and Pakistani Flood Relief - with great success. It was wonderful to see our Columbus friends and family, and especially to spend time with our teacher.
We are so grateful to everyone who came to see our recitals, and who shared what they enjoyed about our music with us afterwards. It's an amazing feeling to know that your music touches someone, or that it creates an imagery, or some much needed release and relaxation. Because of these experiences, we'll continue to make music and share with as many people as we are able! Thank you all for coming to hear us and giving us so much motivation!
I miss Kana now that I'm back in Madison, but I know that it won't be too long before our next adventure. ;)
Hope to see you all soon!!

We love Pennsylvania
Time flies! We've already finished half of our concerts, and we've been together rehearsing and playing for more than a week already!
Things are going well so far on our tour, and all of our performances have been well received. We've been complimented on our energy and programming, as well as some things specific to certain pieces. We are still improving, but we're very happy with our program and it's been so much fun really making this music ours.
It is wonderful to be home in Pennsylvania right now. I've been looking forward to this recital since we started planning. The last time I played in Tyrone (or Pennsylvania for that matter!) was during my sophomore year of college! So much has changed since then, it will be great to see family and friends and share with them what I do!
So, we have one more day of preparation and then a great day to enjoy! Today, we have rehearsing to do, but also pedicures, Gardner's ice cream and shopping!
See you Wednesday night!

Bye Bye Paris!
Post by Kana
But not for long time :) As much as I am sad to leave the city, I am truly happy to go to America for more musical adventures!!! Summer of 2010 is a non-stop excitements!
I am so thankful for Morgann who has been taking care of bunch of things to get ready for our concerts in America! Without her... really, non of concerts were possible...! Grand merci a toi, Morgann!!!
Here we go... 16hours trave ahead of me. Before getting in Madison, WI.... Anaheim, CA!!!! I am excited to go to the annual flute convention, this time to perform :) I wish in the near future, Dural Reveries can perform there too!! It will be our another short-term goal :)

Publicity, posters, and emails, oh my!
Here we are, less than one week away from Kana's arrival in Madison! It's hard to believe that just one week ago I was still Paris!
This first week home has been extremely productive, obviously with practice, but also with the logistics that come with giving so many recitals. I've been making lists, sending emails, printing posters, sending invitations, passing out "save the date" mini flyers, and talking with the people in charge of all our venues. But, I love it! It all adds into the excitement that leads up to giving a recital. I've always loved the process - choosing music, the woodshedding when you first learn a piece, discovering all your favorite moments in new music, developing a theme and choosing images to represent the performance, and of course, actually giving the recital. When you have a fantastic musician to share the process with, it's even better.
So, while the next few weeks are going to be full of emails and details, they will also be full of music and memories. I'm looking forward to enjoying every minute of the preparation as well as the performance!
Countdown to the first recital of our 2010 tour: 9 days!
See you all soon!

12days of wonderful life at the Alps is now over. Really, fun time goes by way too fast sometimes... I really wished they would have lasted longer. Morgann and I both had great lessons as a soloist and as a duo. Everyday was very productive.
This morning, Morgann left for America.
We had so much fun together passed few days :) Amazing fact is that we both have passion in music, but also in other things, which we can both enjoy :)
Concert Program for coming up concert is almost done.
We have found nice outfits to wear for our concerts... :)
16days until our opening concert in Madison!!!!!
See you soon, Morgann!
See you soon, Everyone!!!

Time flies when you're having fun!
It's hard to believe that our 12 day stay in the French Alps is over already! What an incredible setting for learning and performing!! I met so many fantastic people at the course, and it was especially nice for Kana and I to go together since we see each other so rarely! We ended up being in different hotels at MusicAlp, so we still didn't see each other as much as you might think!
Lessons went very well over the past two weeks for both of us, and our chamber music lessons were good as well. Our teacher for chamber music was Simone Feyrabend, a viola professor at National Academy of Bouloghe-Billancourt and assistant to the Academy of Paris. She is also the violist of the Elyséen Quartet. She ended up coaching quite a few Brahms trios (with clarinet) over the course of the week, so I think she really enjoyed our flute duo. We started lessons with the Mendelssohn Scherzo arranged for two flutes, and also worked on the Kessick "Exotic Perfumes". Mme. Feyrabend particularly liked the Kessick, so we performed four of the movements on the chamber music recital.
The performance went well, and we had fun trying to play into the "exotic" sound of the piece. We're looking forward to doing the whole thing on our recitals in August!
We both learned so much this week, although not as much about "flute playing" as you might think. The joy of studying with Jean is that he is always searching for the inner musician. His goal is to help us find our music, and then let the rest follow. Truly, I think we both had moments of that this week. It's an amazing, and freeing feeling to play that way, with a level of communication that goes far beyond just reading the score. Of course, we have a lot of hard work to do to make sure that we keep it up, and it's an incredible challenge to always play this way! So, we'll squeeze in some more practice together before I head back to the States on Tuesday. We may or may not squeeze in some shopping, too..... ;)

Day 1 of the blog:
I arrived today very early from America and very low on sleep, but I was so excited to be here in Paris that it didn't matter! We spent the day in true Kana and Morgann fashion: walking all over the city taking advantage of the sale season, and still finding time to practice some of our duo rep! Tomorrow we head off to the Alps for lots of individual study with Jean Ferrandis, and also lots of work on our upcoming concerts.
It was so exciting to practice the Mendelssohn Scherzo duet today. Obviously there's work to be done, but I had goose bumps playing it through - I was just so excited to be fluting with Kana! We're going to have some great concerts in August!
But, after a long and relaxing dinner at a cute little Parisian Cafe (complete with cat!), it's time to get started catching up on this jet lag!
Bonne nuit!
Morgann
